Abandon all preconceived notions, you who enter here.
Since you found me, you either got a frantic e-mail (Come visit my website—PLEASE!) or you googled a word or phrase that linked to the content on my website. Believe me, there’s no other reason you’d be here, so I guess you want to know a bit about me.
Currently, I live in Evansville, Indiana, but I grew up in New York, lived in San Francisco for over a dozen years, and also lived in Florida, Louisiana, and Colorado. Last winter (2008-2009) I lived in Kuwait with my soon-to-be ex-husband who lives and works there. (Pay close attention to my first last name. In the near future, Duplissey will no longer be there.)
While in the Middle East, we took a day trip to Doha, Qatar and a three-day trip to Istanbul, Turkey. Look for twists (and fabrications--so don't try to calculate what is the truth--it's fiction!) on my personal experiences during that time in the novel I’m currently working on: Shades of Gray. I’ve included the first chapter (a work-in-progress that may not even be Chapter One by the time it’s completed) on this website.
All the places I’ve lived or have visited show up somehow or other in whatever I write, as do my varied and some would say unusual experiences.
I was adopted as an infant, and the theme of that primal loss echoes through most of my writing. You may wonder if I’ve found my birthmother, and the most I’ll say about that now is, “Yes.” I put aside a memoir about that very subject to concentrate on the novel (Ghost Orchid) Robin (C. Wright) and I have just finished but will return to it sometime in the future. Then you’ll know the rest of the story.
As you’ve no doubt already discovered, I’m rarely at a loss for words, but then there is so much to say. I suppose I should cover a few specifics, so here they are.
I received a BA in English (Creative Writing Emphasis) from the University of Southern Indiana in 2000. (I’m obviously a late bloomer.) I write almost anything except poetry, but my favorite is fiction. Occasionally, I try to write a short story that doesn’t expand itself into a novel, but my stories tend to get too complicated for that genre. (I’m working on it.) If I ever find a way to really condense what I write, I’d like to try writing flash fiction. I’ll let you know how that works out.
I also write personal essays and creative nonfiction. I’ve had essays published in USI publications while a student there, but I admit I haven’t submitted work for quite some time—nothing ever seems quite finished—another thing I’m working on.
I have to mentilon here that currently you can't click on my links to get to the websites. One day I'll figure it out or upgrade. Be patient, please!
